1) Schedule Fall/Spring Comfort Club Maintenance
Here at Eastern Air Flow of Kentucky we offer an annual maintenance plan called Comfort Club. When the weather changes from cool to warm or vice versa, it is always wise to have a licensed professional to inspect your system. With this maintenance, it will prevent unnecessary breakdowns from a dirty coil, worn out parts, dirty filters, etc. With the comfort club plan, the customer will receive discounts off of repairs, new units and priority service. As well as two visits per year to maintenance your unit to prevent those pesky breakdowns.
2) Change your air filter monthly
When your using a 1-inch filter. It is recommended to change them monthly. When using a 5-inch media filter it is recommended to change them every 6 months. When your air filters are unkempt and unchanged, the dust and dirt accumulate on them will cause the heating and cooling unit to work harder than it needs to. This extra work can lead to unnecessary breakdowns, and repairs may be needed more often. Inspect the filter at least once a month to determine if it needs to be cleaned or replaced. Changing your air filter helps the air move through your unit better, which will cause less breakdowns.
3) Do not block air vents or returns
Many of us have bad habits of covering up put air vents and returns with our furniture. You should never block these off. You could mess with the air flow. Just because you cover the vent, it doesn’t been the heating and cooling unit knows that. It will keep pushing air to those vents, and if they’re closed or covered, you could cause a buildup of air pressure and the insufficient airflow can damage your system and even damage your heat exchanger, causing it to crack and lead to carbon monoxide leakage. Also, some think that covering them up will save energy, but it does the complete opposite
4) Tips for better efficiency
Everyone wants to save money on their energy bill, right? Well here are a couple tips to help! Set your thermostat at one temperature. Constantly adjusting can cause a higher energy bill. In the heating mode, try not to set the thermostat below 65 degrees or above 75 degrees. In the cooling mode, try not to set the thermostat below 70 degrees. Don’t blow grass on your condenser when mowing the lawn of weed-eating around the unit. Don’t stack things up around the unit or on top of the unit.
