With only six more days until Halloween, autumn has officially came to the mountains. . Everyone has turned in their t-shirt and shorts for a pair of blue jeans paired with a comfy long sleeved shirt. Some are even wearing their winter jackets! Of course, winter isn’t far away from us now seeing as how Christmas is simply 61 days away. As we grow to the holidays, we also grow closer and closer to colder weather. There are certain steps in which to take to prepare your home, especially your HVAC unit, for the winter. Winterization, as it is most commonly known as, is typically best done before the cold weather hits in full force this way you can be sure to reduce those cold winter draft’s inside your home.
When you take the extra time to winterize your HVAC unit, you are actually benefitting quite tremendously from it. When you seal your air conditioning ducts and vents, you’re effectively keeping out the cold air which in return, you are improving the efficiency of your furnace and saving money on your utilities bill. Not only is the energy and money efficient, but it can help with the longevity of your equipment. By wrapping your unit in a tarp or waterproof unit cover, you are protecting it from future ice building up on the unit throughout the harsh winter months. With a tarp or unit cover, the unit is also being protected from rust damage, clogs, and other issues alike.
