Happy November! Fall time is here but it’s feeling more like winter every day. With the decreasing temperatures some older units may have a hard time keeping your home comfort. Luckily, there’s a good way to make sure your heating system is prepared for this early winter: WINTERIZATION!
Here’s a few tips on winterization:
- Turn off all the exterior power to the central air unit by locating the circuit outside, hitting the switch, then closing the lid. This prevents damage from happening and will keep the A/C from being turned on.
- Once you’ve made sure it’s turned off, you can start cleaning the system. First, start by raking any leaves, branches, and debris that may be around or on top of the unit. Then take a nearby hose and spray your unit off being sure to get what dirt debris off that you couldn’t before. After spraying it off with some water, let it dry for a couple of hours (be sure it is completely dry) then you can cover the unit with either a tarp or waterproof air conditioner unit cover, securing it with either bungee cords or ties, to protect the unit’s compressor.
- A simple, final step in winterizing your home is to make sure all central air conditioning ducts and vents are sealed off. You can easily do this by using specialty tape that is approved for the sole purpose of sealing off said ducts and vents
If you are wanting to winterize your HVAC unit before the weather gets any colder, but you just aren’t able to do so then worry not. You can call us toll-free at (844) 334-5480 or walk in at any of our office locations, located in Prestonsburg, Lexington, or Ashland!
By taking a few extra steps you could save hundreds on repairs and keep your family comfortable this season.
