Easy low-cost and no-cost ways to save energy.
Many of our service calls this week has been attributed to dirty filters and/or dirty evaporator coils. It is important that you change your one inch filters monthly or five inch media filters twice a year at a minimum. Dirty coils/filter restrict air flow causing ice to develop on the evaporator coil which can cause you major problems as pictured to the left. Extended air conditioning operation while it is froze could possibly damage your compressor. We offer yearly and twice yearly maintenance and coil cleanings to help ensure your comfort.
Air Flow is very crucial in our field of heating and cooling, hence the reason why we chose the name for the company as Eastern Air Flow LLC.

Used Air Conditioning Equipment: Buyer Beware
After seeing so many used pieces of air conditioning equipment for sale on several different internet websites we felt it was important to write a short blog post about purchasing used air conditioning equipment. The facts you need to know: Kentucky requires licensed professionals in the heating and cooling field to buy, service, and install heating and cooling equipment. Master contractors must have insurance and maintain their licenses yearly for this privilege. There is almost always a reason someone is selling their old air conditioner. Most people do not upgrade their system’s until there is a problem with their current air conditioner. The cost of having a licensed contractor install and repair a used piece of equipment is often comparable to the cost of a brand new system.
Contact us today for an estimate for your new air conditioning system and you may be surprised at how affordable your comfort can be. Thanks for reading.

The old age and poor efficiency of your old air conditioner is a great reason to begin planning on replacing it this summer. High repair costs on an old system along with increasing utility rates make replacing your air conditioner sound better and better every day. What I would like to do is to explain efficiency and the common term S.E.E.R rating with you so that you may make an informed decision regarding your purchase. S.E.E.R rating stands for seasonal energy efficiency ratio. Basically the higher the rating, the more electricity you save for cooling the same amount of space.
S.E.E.R ratings for this year have the minimum rating of 13 (although this will change after December 31, 2014 according to recent government reports to 14) and many manufactures produce systems up to 18-20 S.E.E.R range.
Over a relatively short payback period, say 5 years it is very justifiable economically to purchase a 15 or 16 S.E.E.R system over a 13. Without getting into any boring calculations I will leave you with this excerpt from the energy.gov website :
“Today’s best air conditioners use 30% to 50% less energy to produce the same amount of cooling as air conditioners made in the mid 1970s. Even if your air conditioner is only 10 years old, you may save 20% to 40% of your cooling energy costs by replacing it with a newer, more efficient model. Proper sizing and installation are key elements in determining air conditioner efficiency. Too large a unit will not adequately remove humidity. Too small a unit will not be able to attain a comfortable temperature on the hottest days. Improper unit location, lack of insulation, and improper duct installation can greatly diminish efficiency.”
We would be more than happy to explain this in more detail at your home, contact us today for your customized estimate to replace your air conditioning system. We serve all of Eastern Kentucky in the Big Sandy region. (859) 429-2207.

Cooling Season is here! After a long cold winter, we are finally seeing temperatures in the eighties. For many this means planting gardens, spring turkey season, spring cleaning, etc. Although I am sure we will still see some cooler mornings to come this month, I for one am enjoying the warm weather.
During such a busy time of the year, I would like to remind everyone the importance of regular maintenance on their air conditioning systems to minimize breakdown time during the hot summer that is on its way. Here are some helpful tips to prepare for the air conditioning season ahead from energy.gov-
