As we are entering the fall months here in Kentucky, I feel that it is important to address the elephant in the room for all of our customers. "How much does a new heating system really cost?"
A new heating system for your home may be more affordable than you think. Often heating system break downs are home repairs that we do not plan for. When expensive repairs are required to your old heating system, it may be more beneficial for you and your family to replace your old heating system.
New heating systems can be financed with payments ranging from just $49 dollars per month to as high as $120 dollars or more per month depending on how efficient of a heating system you choose to purchase. Total prices can range from $1,990.00 for a basic furnace to $5,000 or more for a complete high efficiency heating and cooling system. Rest assured that we have a product for you, within your price range. We guarantee to beat our top competitor's quote with our competitive edge guarantee. Our new heating systems come standard with a ten year part warranty, ten year compressor warranty and a twenty year heat exchanger warranty when applicable. Some brands even come with a 12 year warranty. Our company, Eastern Air Flow of Kentucky installs new heating systems all across Kentucky from Lexington to Pikeville & anywhere in between.
As utility companies continue to increase their rates, a high efficiency heating system becomes more and more important to home owners. I would encourage everyone who is reading this article to quit throwing good money after bad on outrageous utility bills of $500 dollars or more. For example, a 20 SEER heat pump can cut your electrical usage by up to 50%. Often these systems will pay for themselves in just a few short years, while saving you money on your utility bills month after month for the life of your new heating system.
An old gas furnace for example may only be 60% AFUE, meaning that 40 cents of every dollar you spend on heating your home is literally being burnt through the chimney exhaust. The very minimum efficiency natural gas or propane furnace that you can purchase today is an 80% AFUE, although most of our customers opt to purchase a 90% to a 95% AFUE furnace. AFUE stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. The Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) is a measure of a gas furnace's efficiency in converting fuel to energy, by projecting the average thermal efficiency for a complete heating season. A higher AFUE rating means greater energy efficiency.
No matter the type of heating system your home currently has, if your system is older than twelve years old we can definitely help you save money on your utilities this winter. Please contact us toll free at (844) 422-5711 or fill out the contact form below for a free consultation to see how much money we can save you month after month over the next two decades! Our heating installation and repair services are available to the following cities in Kentucky: Lexington, Richmond, Frankfort, Ashland, Morehead, Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Paintsville, Louisa, Belfry, Inez, Winchester, and surrounding areas.
1) Schedule Fall/Spring Comfort Club Maintenance
Here at Eastern Air Flow of Kentucky we offer an annual maintenance plan called Comfort Club. When the weather changes from cool to warm or vice versa, it is always wise to have a licensed professional to inspect your system. With this maintenance, it will prevent unnecessary breakdowns from a dirty coil, worn out parts, dirty filters, etc. With the comfort club plan, the customer will receive discounts off of repairs, new units and priority service. As well as two visits per year to maintenance your unit to prevent those pesky breakdowns.
2) Change your air filter monthly
When your using a 1-inch filter. It is recommended to change them monthly. When using a 5-inch media filter it is recommended to change them every 6 months. When your air filters are unkempt and unchanged, the dust and dirt accumulate on them will cause the heating and cooling unit to work harder than it needs to. This extra work can lead to unnecessary breakdowns, and repairs may be needed more often. Inspect the filter at least once a month to determine if it needs to be cleaned or replaced. Changing your air filter helps the air move through your unit better, which will cause less breakdowns.
3) Do not block air vents or returns
Many of us have bad habits of covering up put air vents and returns with our furniture. You should never block these off. You could mess with the air flow. Just because you cover the vent, it doesn’t been the heating and cooling unit knows that. It will keep pushing air to those vents, and if they’re closed or covered, you could cause a buildup of air pressure and the insufficient airflow can damage your system and even damage your heat exchanger, causing it to crack and lead to carbon monoxide leakage. Also, some think that covering them up will save energy, but it does the complete opposite
4) Tips for better efficiency
Everyone wants to save money on their energy bill, right? Well here are a couple tips to help! Set your thermostat at one temperature. Constantly adjusting can cause a higher energy bill. In the heating mode, try not to set the thermostat below 65 degrees or above 75 degrees. In the cooling mode, try not to set the thermostat below 70 degrees. Don’t blow grass on your condenser when mowing the lawn of weed-eating around the unit. Don’t stack things up around the unit or on top of the unit.
Eastern Air Flow of Kentucky is committed to serving all of Kentucky. Contact us for all your heating and cooling needs. Toll-Free (844) 422-5411.
The old age and poor efficiency of your old heating and air conditioning system is a great reason to begin planning on replacing it this fall. High repair costs on an old system along with increasing utility rates make replacing your heating and air conditioning sound better and better every day. What I would like to do is to explain efficiency and the common term S.E.E.R rating with you so that you may make an informed decision regarding your purchase. S.E.E.R rating stands for seasonal energy efficiency ratio. Basically the higher the rating, the more electricity you save for heating and cooling the same amount of space.
S.E.E.R ratings for this year have the minimum rating of 13 (although this will change after December 31, 2014 according to recent government reports to 14) and many manufactures produce systems up to 18-20 S.E.E.R range.
Over a relatively short payback period, say 7 years it is very justifiable economically to purchase a 15 or 16 S.E.E.R system over a 13. Without getting into any boring calculations I will leave you with this excerpt from the energy.gov website :
“Today’s best heating and air conditioners use 30% to 50% less energy to produce the same amount of cooling as air conditioners made in the mid 1970s. Even if your heating and air conditioner is only 10 years old, you may save 20% to 40% of your heating and cooling energy costs by replacing it with a newer, more efficient model. Proper sizing and installation are key elements in determining air conditioner efficiency. Too large a unit will not adequately remove humidity. Too small a unit will not be able to attain a comfortable temperature on the coolest and hottest days. Improper unit location, lack of insulation, and improper duct installation can greatly diminish efficiency.”
We would be more than happy to explain this in more detail at your home, contact us today for your customized estimate to replace your heating and air conditioning system. We serve all of Kentucky. (844) 422-5711
Thanks for reading.
Have you fired up your furnace this fall? Don’t worry if you haven’t. Many of us like to wait until the last possible moment to save on our utility bills. We offer maintenance to fire your system up for the first time this fall/winter/ We will check and ensure it is functioning properly. If you have a heat pump or electric furnace and you smell a hot smell for the first few moments after firing it off for the first time, this is typically normal. If your smoke alarms go off, you may want to consult a professional as this may be a sign of trouble. Dust builds up on the heat strips all summer and has to be burned off when the unit is first turned on. Advise such as this should help save you and your family money this fall. If you have any questions or wish to have your furnace serviced before the temperature drops, contact us at (844) 422-5711. With offices in Prestonsburg and Richmond, it makes it easy to serve all of Eastern and Central Kentucky.
It is hard to believe that fall is already here and winter is right around the corner. We urge everyone to have their heating system checked and maintained to help prevent breakdowns when the bad weather arrives. The fact is many heating system failures can be preventable with regular maintenance.
We make it easy for you to keep track of your important systems in your home such as your central heating and cooling system with our Comfort Club. If you become a member you will receive two visits per year where both your heating and air conditioning system will be checked out by our licensed professionals. We will make recommendations if needed to replace aging parts that are growing weak.
Another advantage for regular inspections for a gas heating system is we can check the combustion chamber or heat exchanger to ensure it is in good condition without cracks. A cracked heat exchanger may allow deadly carbon monoxide into your home.
We have two offices, one in Prestonsburg, Kentucky and the other in Richmond, Kentucky. With these two offices we are more than able to serve all eastern and central Kentucky.
